Meals on Wheels Meal are hot, nutritious meals delivered weekdays to seniors who are homebound. Cold meals for the evening and frozen meals for the weekend are available, based on need. Meals on Wheels follows USDA food pyramid guidelines and our menus are approved by a Registered Dietitian. Sorry, we are unable to provide special diet requests.
The suggested donation for each meal is $2.50. for the
May 2013 menu

Eligibility - To be eligible, a person must be 60 years of age or older, or the spouse of a person 60 years of age or older, and be homebound (i.e., does not leave home under normal circumstances).
To begin Meals on Wheels we will need:
• Name, address and phone number of the senior to receive the meals
• Birthdate
• Name and phone number of a contact person
• The reason Meals on Wheels are needed
All information is kept confidential.
A social worker will contact the senior to schedule a home visit for an assessment.
Cancellations - The senior must be home when meals are delivered, or contact the program when an absence is unavoidable, such as a doctor's or dialysis appointment. Call 768-8684 for cancellations. An emergency contact person is called each time a senior has not canceled and does not answer the door. Our drivers are not allowed to leave the meals if the senior is not home or if other arrangements have not been made.
Bad Weather - Meals on Wheels are not delivered on days when bad weather prevents safe road conditions for our Meal Drivers. On days the Jackson Public Schools are closed due to bad weather, meals will not be delivered. Local radio and TV stations will announce meal cancellations.
In preparation for winter weather, Meals on Wheels clients receive two emergency meals early in November. These meals are to be consumed when a regular delivery cannot be made.
