Jackson County Youth Center

Welcome to the Jackson County Youth Center homepage.  The JCYC, Jackson County Youth Center, is a 50 bed juvenile facility that caters to the needs of court involved delinquents. The JCYC is located at 930 Fleming Ave, Jackson, MI, 49202.

DETENTION SERVICES:
The JCYC supports a 24 bed detention unit which houses juvenile offenders for crimes such, as armed robbery, murder, arson and controlled substances violations as well as many other felony offenses.  The unit operates on a token economy system and has a year round Educational Program.  This unit is also open to Out Of County youth for placement from other jurisdictions.  For more information, please send email to the address below.

RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT SERVICES:
The residential treatment unit supports a 14 bed unit which houses coed youth that range from 13 to 16 years and 4 months of age.  The program ranges from 6 to 12 months in length depending on the youth's progress in treatment.  Youths are involved in areas such as: Group Therapy, Substance Abuse Counseling, a year round Educational Program, Assertiveness Training, Female Support Groups and a wide range of Recreational activities.  The residential treatment unit is also the recipient of the Outdoor Adventure Program (see below).  For more information, please send email to the address below.

AFTERCARE/RE-ENTRY SERVICES:
Aftercare services are provided after a resident's release and graduation from the residential treatment unit.  A resident's school and home progress are monitored.  Contact with the family and youth continues to ensure continual success.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE PROGRAM:
We have pioneered the way in outdoor adventure learning for juvenile detention centers. For the past 20 years the residents of the youth center have been involved in an intensive week long backpacking trip though the Great Smoky Mountains National  Park. Residents learn outdoor survival techniques, problem solving, and group cooperation in this most unusual setting.

OUT OF COUNTY SERVICE:
The JCYC has opened its doors to out of county placement.  While at the youth center, out of county residents receive the same benefits that "in-county" youth receive. Per diem rates can be accessed by e-mail or by contacting the Jackson County Youth Center.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES:
Detention and Residential treatment youths are offered a complete year-round, in- building, school program operated by the Intermediate School District.  Each youth is evaluated for individual placement in the school program.  The school program also offers a mainstreaming program designed to place youths in their home schools before and after release from the youth center.
