Animal Control Officers enforce the State
Dog Law of 1919 and County protection ordinances. ACO's
are on call 7 days a week for emergencies.
The Jackson County Animal Control handles
problems like:
A vicious dog, cruelty to animals, injured domestic animals,
pick up of confined stray domestic animals, investigations
of livestock killed by animals, animal bite checks, animals
attacking animals, dogs/livestock running loose, pickup
of dead domestic animals, pickup of dead animals from
veterinarians, checks for current rabies vaccinations
and issuance of pet licenses, inspections and issuance
of kennel licenses.
If you have an emergencey such as a dog, cat or ferret
that has bitten a person or another animal, dogs in the
act of attacking, injured dog or cat and the owner can
not be reached, dog or Livestock causing a traffic hazard,
or a dog that is out of quarantine please call 911 and
they will contact and Animal Control Officer.
As a public service, we offer guided tours of the shelter.
We also visit schools, preschools and other groups to
speak about Animal Control. Topics of discussion include:
What is Animal Control?, Dog Bite Prevention, Caring for
Your Pet, and Spaying and Neutering your pet.
