Campground Program - Inspections for sanitary conditions.

Car Seat Program - Provides short or long-term infant, convertible, and booster car seat rentals for a nominal fee.  Full or partial refunds are available to qualifying clients.

Childhood Lead Poisoning Program - Perform lead hazard analysis by physician referral for Medicaid clients.  Fee based lead hazard analysis for homes.

Children's Special Health Care Services - Appointments made to determine medical and financial eligibility for medical services for children with chronic conditions.

Chronic Disease - Nurse provides education and screening programs associated with chronic diseases including cigarette smoking, elevated cholesterol, hypertension, obesity, diabetic mellitus, and physical inactivity.

Communicable Disease - Nurse provides public health surveillance and reporting of communicable disease

Early On - An early intervention program which provides educational, health and social services to children, age birth to three years old, with special medical, physical or developmental needs and their families.

Educational Materials and Resources - Resource materials (literature, audio visual, etc.) and resource persons available to the public upon request.

FIA Inspection Program - Sanitarians inspect Child day care homes, centers, Adult foster care homes and children camps for health safety requirements.

Groundwater Contamination Program - Monitor and inspect contaminated groundwater sites.

Health Information Nurse - A registered nurse is available for health information and instruction.  A small fee may be charged depending on service provided.

Hearing and Vision Clinic - Certified hearing technicians screen preschoolers and children in grades K, 2, 4, and 6 in Jackson County schools for hearing defects. The Jackson County Health Department provides a walk-in Hearing and Vision clinic twice a month (first and third Fridays from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) throughout the school year for all Jackson County residents.

Certified vision technicians screen preschoolers and children in grades 1, 3, 5, and 7, and in grades 9 and 11 or in Driver's Education Class, in Jackson County schools for vision problems. The Jackson County Health Department provides a walk-in Hearing and Vision clinic twice a month (first and third Fridays from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) throughout the school year for all Jackson County residents.

HIV/AIDS Counseling and Testing Program
- Provides confidential and anonymous counseling and testing services for high-risk individuals.  Qualified speakers are available for group presentations on AIDS.  Services provided free of charge.

Housing Inspection and Condemnations - Inspections of housing under the Sanitary Code.

Immunizations - Advocacy program whose goals are to encourage community involvement in efforts to increase early childhood immunizations, to increase immunization levels by providing educational and awareness activities for parents and physicians, and to make up-to-date information available on vaccine-preventable disease to all nurses, physicians, and those who work with small children.

Immunization Clinic - Immunizations and TB testing for children and adults.   Emphasizes completed immunization series for children by age two.

Infant Support Services Program - Public health nursing, social work, nutrition counseling and parenting classes are available to at-risk infants from birth to one year receiving Medicaid Assistance.  Referrals to other social service agencies and transportation if needed. 

Maternal Support Services Program - Public health nursing, social work, nutrition counseling and childbirth preparation classes are available to pregnant women receiving Medicaid.  Assistance with referrals to other social service agencies and transportation if needed.

Mobile Home Park Program - Inspections for sanitary conditions.

On-Site Sewage Program - Site, inspect, and design residential on-site sewage disposal systems.

Personal and Preventative Health - Provides teaching and guidance in the areas of health care.  Also provides investigation and health teaching for cases and contacts of hepatitis, meningitis, salmonella, TB, etc.  Referrals accepted from any source.

Pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevention Services - Resource Library; Parent Education; JCAP (Jackson County Abstinence Partnership)
activities targeting 9-14 year olds; abstinence-based school curriculum.

Property Change of Use Reviews - Evaluations of water and sewage supplies for change of use.

Public Speakers - Available free or for a minimal fee to community groups, offering a variety of  health-related topics. For more info, call (517) 788-4655.

Radon Program - Supply test kits and information on radon.

SARS - Information from the CDC on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

Septage Waste Program - Permit and inspect equipment and disposal sites for septage.  

Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic - Provides information, testing, treatment and follow-up of cases and contacts of sexually transmitted diseases.  Services provided free of charge.

Site Evaluations Program -
Evaluate speculative land for on-site sewage system potential.

Solid Waste Program - Investigate solid waste complaints under the Sanitary Code.

Swimming Pool Program - Public pool testing and inspections.

Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program - Goal is to reduce Jackson County's teen birth rate Provides programming for 13-19 year olds who live in the Jackson Public School District Partnering agencies are: Jackson Public Schools, Lily Missions center, Florence Crittenton Services, Intermediate School District, Planned Parenthood and Jackson Non - Profit Support Center

Tobacco Reduction Activities
- Coordinates Jackson Tobacco Reduction Coalition activities; public speakers; educational materials; cessation services; assistance with Tobacco-free Worksite Policy Development; Legislative Advocacy; and Resource Library.

Tuberculosis (TB) Clinic - Physician care and drug treatment follow-up program for TB cases and contacts.  By appointment only.

Well Program - Site, permit, sample, and inspect private and non-community water wells.

WIC Program (Women, Infants and Children) - Provides coupons for specific
foods high in protein, vitamins, iron and other essential minerals, nutritional counseling and education.  Free to eligible pregnant and breast-feeding women, infants, and children under age five.  Eligibility is based on medical and/or nutritional need and financial status.
