David Lutchka - Jackson County District 2 CommissionerDave Lutchka, (REP) lived in Grass Lake, Michigan since 1968. He and his wife Joan own and operate a farm where they raise purebred Angus breeding cattle. They have three children, two daughters-in-law and five grandchildren. 2005 marked the 50th year that Dave has raised Angus cattle. The American Angus Association has designated the Lutchka herd as a Historic Herd. In 1997 a roadside market was added to the operation.

Dave graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1965 with a BBA in accounting. He began working with the Michigan Department of the Treasury, Local Government Audit Division, immediately after graduation. He audited counties, cities, villages and townships. When the “Uniform Accounting and Budgeting Act” was passed into law, he began teaching accounting and budgeting to local unit officials, and established the budgeting procedures that local units must follow. Dave was later assigned as the Department of the Treasury representative to work with financially distressed local units of government. His duties included coming up with innovative ways to get these units back in the black. Dave was the Administrator of Treasury’s Financial Operations Division from 1990 until he retired in 1997.

Dave currently serves on the following organizations: Jackson County Agricultural Council, the county’s Rural Education Days Committee (project RED), Michigan Youth Livestock Scholarship Board as treasurer, Michigan State Fair Livestock Auction Committee, Michigan Angus Board of Directors and SE Michigan Angus Board as vice president.

As County Commissioner, Dave is Chairman of the County Affairs Committee, member of the Personnel and Finance Committee and Vice Chair of the Farmland and Open Space Land Preservation Ordinance task force. He is also a member of the Fair Board, Airport Board, and treasurer of the leadership team for the five county Food System Economic Partnership (FSEP)

Dave spent 32 years being a public servant before retirement and will serve not only the public in District #2, but also strive to serve the whole county as a commissioner. Dave is a good listener and believes that common sense can solve most problems.
