Julie Alexander, District #6 Commissioner

Now in her second term as a Jackson County Commissioner, Julie Alexander serves the 6th District including Concord, Spring Arbor, Pulaski as well as Hanover Township in which she resides.

As a Northwest High School (1980) and Western Michigan (1984) graduate, Julie began her professional career as an educator. Her 22 years of teaching experience have varied from Middle School English Language Arts to Adult Education.

Commissioner Alexander’s experience as a teacher has proved a valuable asset to the Board of Commission as she oversees the County’s Education Strategic Priority while serving as Chair of the County’s Education Team, Cradle to Career (C2C) initiative and Jackson 2020 Education Strand as well as the County’s Human Services Committee. Additional county boards and committees now serving on: Agencies & Affairs, SCMWorks! Consortium Board, Land Bank Authority, Parks and Recreation, Strategic Implementation Team, and CAA Board of Directors.

While not originally born and raised on a farm, she has embraced the lifestyle of a dairy farmer’s wife. Julie and her husband, Jeff, own and operate their dairy farm in Hanover Township.  Farming nearly 1000 acres and milking their herd of Holsteins, the entire Alexander family (including their children Andrew, Adam, Jared, and Anna) has played an important role in this 3rd generation family farm. While their son Jared is in active duty with the United States Marine Corps, the remaining family live close by the homestead including their granddaughter, Addison.

Julie has been an active volunteer in her community, her children's education, and the dairy and agriculture industry. She has been awarded Jackson County Farm Bureau Service to Agriculture Award (2004), and Jackson County Dairy Woman of the Year (1993) and United Dairy Industry of Michigan’s Excellence in Dairy Promotion Award (2013).  Julie serves on the Jackson County Republican Party Executive Board.

Julie looks forward to serving the people of the 6th District and Jackson County.  As an elected official, she encourages her constituents to contact her with questions and concerns.
