WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU WHEN APPLYING FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE:
Picture identification IS required & must be presented at the time you apply showing your correct address. One party needs to be a resident of Jackson County. Both parties do not have to be present to apply, a photo copy of identification is not mandatory but suggested for the absent party . Birth dates, birth places (city and state), current address and social security numbers of each applying party as well as each parties parents’ full names, including mother’s maiden names and the state where each parent was born are needed.

You must obtain your license in the County in which one party resides. If one or both of you have a Jackson County address, you may apply at the Jackson County Clerk’s Office for your license. The fee is $20 and required at the time you apply. You can use this license to be married anywhere in the State of Michigan. Applicants coming from out-of-state must apply for their license in the county in Michigan where the marriage is to take place. The fee for an out-of-state marriage license is $30.
After you are married you can request a copy of your certified marriage license
Michigan has a three (3) day waiting period. The following is a list of the pick up schedule:

You may request to waive the 3 day waiting period by filing out a waiver form from the clerk's office. If the 3 day waiver is approved an extra $20 waiver fee is added to the license fee (active military personnel will not be charged a 3 day waiver fee).
MARRIAGE LICENSES MUST BE USED WITHIN 33 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF APPLICATION!
When you pick up your marrige license you will receive instructions as to how to process your license once you have been married.
