Equalization advises and assists the Board of Commissioners in equalizing property tax assessments on a county-wide basis. In conformance with state directives the department conducts annual sales and appraisal studies. These studies are used to equalize the assessed values of each class of property in each of the 20 units of government within Jackson County. Equalization works with all the taxing authorities to assure that the millage rates that are applied to the July and December tax bills have followed all state directives and are levied accurately.

Equalization has 4 major functions:
             - Assessed/Equalized Valuations for the County
             - Taxable valuations for the County
             - Millage Rates

Each deed is mapped and verified for accuracy and closure. vital information from these documents is then transferred into the county's Assessing program, this information is downloaded to each of the townships on a monthly basis.
