The Jackson County Payroll Office processes payroll for Jackson County employees under the direction of the Finance Officer.
The goal of the payroll department is to work with the Human Resource Dept to insure that employees are paid correctly and in a timely manner. To insure that all changes regarding wages & status processed through Human Resources and changes regarding tax withholding, wage assignments, & direct deposit processed through the payroll office are reflected correctly on employee paychecks.
Note:
Forms to change Federal and/or State tax withholding and forms regarding direct deposit are available on the intranet under forms-payroll. After completion they should be forwarded to the payroll department for processing.
Other Responsibilities:
- Processing and complying with Court Order wage assignments. The dollar amount withheld is forwarded to the agency as requested in the orders.
- Other deductions such as union dues are processed through an interface with Accounts Payable and mailed by the Payroll Dept.
- payroll taxes- the timely gathering and reporting of all payroll taxes to local, state and Federal agencies on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual schedule. W2’s are processed annually through the payroll office.
- assisting with other general accounting duties of the department
Statistics:
Currently we process approximately 712 paychecks on a bi-weekly cycle. Due to some County areas being somewhat seasonal, for example parks and fair, the check count may vary during the year.
In 2008 there were 988 W2’s processed for Jackson County.
