License to Purchase (LTP) a handgun is used when buying a handgun from an individual, and the purchaser does not have a Concealed Pistol License.
Those purchasing a pistol and do not have a Concealed Pistol License must come to the Sheriff’s Office to obtain a LTP.
As of February 2024, all private sales with rifles and shotguns must obtain a LTP unless purchasing from an authorized federal firearms licensee (FFL).
If you have a Concealed Pistol License, you do not need an LTP. Use a Firearm Sales Record.
If you live outside Jackson County, go to your local police or Sheriff’s Office.
If you live within the city limits, please visit the Jackson City Police to obtain a LTP.
Applications for an LTP can be picked up and processed at the Sheriff's Office during our normal business hours - Monday through Thursday from 9AM until 4PM. We strongly encourage appointments to avoid excessive wait times; however, walk-ins are welcome. Appointments may be booked below or by calling to set up an appointment.
