The Drain Commissioner (aka Public Works Commissioner and Water Resources Commissioner) has jurisdiction over all drains within the county, including those heretofore established and now in the process of construction.
As an elected official the Drain Commissioner administers the State Laws and County Ordinances pertaining to the construction and maintenance of:
- Drains and Storm Sewer Facilities
- Inland Lake Level Projects
- Inland Lake Improvements
- Platting of Subdivisions, Mobile Home Parks and Condominiums
- Refuse Facilities
- Sanitary Sewer Collection, Transmission and Treatment Facilities
- Water Distribution, Treatment and Storage Facilities
- Water Management Districts and Sub-Districts
- Flood Control Projects
- Upper Grand River Water Trail
The Drain Commissioner is also a statutory member of the Jackson County Board of Public Works, the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Commission, an appointed Member of the Upper Grand River Watershed Alliance, and the Chairman of the MS4 Storm Water Permit Committee.
