Goals & Objectives

The overall goals and objectives include:
  • Increase the percentage of children showing school readiness through the annual school readiness assessment (Currently PALS) by 1% each year.
  • Develop a county-wide definition of school readiness and align county-wide, Kindergarten assessment tools.
  • Increase the percentage of 4th grade students will demonstrate a proficiency in reading, as measured by the State of Michigan assessment.
  • Increase the percentage of 4th grade students will demonstrate a proficiency in math, as measured by the state of Michigan assessment.
  • Increase the percentage of K-4th grade students who meet the county definition of acceptable attendance, as measured by local district attendance reports.
  • Increase the percentage of 8th graders who meet the state definition of proficient in reading, as measured by the State of Michigan assessment.
  • Increase the percentage of 8th grade students scoring proficient or above in math, as measured by the state of Michigan assessment.
  • Increase the percentage of middle school students with an expectation of pursuing a Career and or College, as measured by student surveys.
  • Increase the percentage of middle school students who are socially and emotionally prepared to be successful in high school and capable of post secondary success, as measured by the Coordinated School Health Council Strategic Plan and the Health Improvement Organization.

Academic Preparedness


Increase the percentage of Jackson County students who enter college prepared to succeed in credit bearing coursework, determined by:
  • The percentage of 11th grade students scoring at or above the ACT (or equivalent state test) "proficient" benchmarks.
  • The percentage of students who apply to college.
  • The percentage of high school graduates enrolled in remedial coursework

Financial Preparedness


Increase the percentage of students who are financially prepared for post secondary education, as measured by the percentage of enrolled seniors completing the FAFSA, the number of enrolled students receiving a Pell Grant, and the total amount of Pell Grant dollars received by students.

Enrollment


Increase the percentage of high school graduates who enroll in a higher education institution, as measured by National Student Clearinghouse data.

Persistence


Increase the percentage of college students who persist for a second year of college, as measured by National Student Clearinghouse persistence data.

Degree Attainment


Increase the percentage of college students who complete a post secondary degree within six years of HS graduation.

Valuable Credential Attainment


Increase the percentage of Jackson County residents who have a valuable credential.

Re-Engagement


Increase the percentage of Jackson County residents who are reactivated into an academic environment.

Community Engagement Goal


  • The full Jackson community is aware of the importance of post-secondary education as a key to career and financial stability
  • All students understand the opportunities, options and pathways within post-secondary education.
  • The full Jackson community is aware of the local resources available that contribute to school and community success.
