The current outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Michigan began in 2022. In the time since, a total of 71 detections have been recorded in the state either in backyard flocks, commercial poultry facilities, or dairies. Today, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) announced the first case identified in Jackson County in a backyard flock.
