The 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is a new virus that causes respiratory illness in people and can spread from person-to-person.  This virus was first detected in Wuhan, China in December, 2019.  The first case in the United States was announced on January 21, 2020 and was identified in Washington State. 

The Centers for Disease Control is monitoring the outbreak and updates may be found on their website where a situation summary and information on case numbers both worldwide and in the United States is listed.

Updates on the Michigan coronavirus situation can be found at www.mi.gov/coronavirus.

You can download and share this Frequently Asked Questions page regarding the novel coronavirus. The Jackson County Health Department has also created this one page Public Health Fact Sheet which you can print and share.

The World Health Organization is providing situation reports to give you a better idea of how the novel coronavirus is spreading and what regions of the world are most affected.

John Hopkins Hospital has a realtime tracker created to post updates on the current status of the 2019 nCoV regarding confirmed cases, deaths and recoveries.
